GLASS AND ITS TYPES

GLASS

Glass is a uniform amorphous solid material produced by the cooling of viscous molten material.

Constituents

Silica, cullet, sodium or potassium carbonate, lime, manganese dioxide are the constituents of glass.

Pyrex It is heat resistant
Wired glass It can withstand impact breakage
Tempered glass It is stronger and flexible
Tinting Glass It reduces the amount of light passing through itself
Insulated Glass It provides good acoustics
Laminated Glass It acta as a safety glazing material

Laminated Glass It acta as a safety glazing material
Diffused Reflection It helps in glazing of pictures
Solar Control Glass It reduces light transmission

Application of Glass

Glass is widely used in the following activities. 1) Engraving 2) Grinding 3) Sand Blasting 4) Gilding 5) Acid Etching 6) Silvering
