1. *About B.Arch & its Admission*
Architecture is the at and science of designing and making buildings and other physical structures.  A wider definition often includes the design of the total built environment, from the macro level of how a building mixes together with its surrounding landscape (town planning, urban design and landscape architecture) to the micro level of architectural or construction details. Architecture is a highly competitive and multi disciplinary profession involving a variety of tasks at work.

The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) is an undergraduate level academic course in architecture and is of 5 years duration.  The course also includes a period of practical apprenticeship,  usually of one semester, under a practising Architect. The B.Arch degree prepares the theoretical foundation and gives some practical insight on which a student later develops proficiency and fundamental accuracy. A bachelor's degree in architecture  (B.Arch) is needed to become a qualified architect, which is a licensed profession.

Subject content of B.Arch course includes architectural deign (drawing and painting),  acoustics, surveying and leveling, estimating and costing, methods of construction, materials management,  history of architecture,  draftsmanship, environmental planning,  applied mechanics, structural designing, computer applications, etc. Some colleges also teach architecture-related software packages such as Auto CAD and 3D Studio Max.

*ADMISSION*
B.Arch course in various colleges of India has been National and State level entrance examonations.

*ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA*
The basic eligibility criteria for B.Arch is 10+2 (Senior Secondary Class 12th ) or equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination from a recognised Board/University with a minimun of 50% marks in Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). Besides this, the candidate must qualify an entrance examination.

But now, the Council of Architecture (CoA) has made it mandatory for B.Arch aspirants to obtain valid NATA score for admission to 1st year of 5 years B.Arch.

CoA through its academic unit-National Institute  of Advanced studies in Architecture (NIASA) at Pune, has been conducting National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), NATA is an online examination for admission to B.Arch degree course at all CoA approved architectural institutions in the country (including NITs, IITs, government institutions, government aided institutions, deemed universities and private universities established by a Central or State Legislature and other private institutions.
The evaluation through NATA is a mandatory requirement for candidate for eventual registration as an architect on successful completion of 5 years B.Arch degree course. It is, hereby,  clarified that any aptitude test conducted by individual institution or by any agency or authority holding a common entrance examination where such common entrance examination is mandated shall no longer be valid for the purpose of admission to CoA approved architectural institutions in such states.


VALIDITY OF SCORE
NATA score is valid for only 1 year from 2017(earlier it was valid for 2 years) throughout the country for the purpose of admission to any architectural institution.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR NATA?
● NATA pre-Registration Form can be downloaded from their website: http://www.nata.in .
● The same is also available at all the NATA Test Centres.
● NATA fees are to be paid at the time of Registration and before collecting of the appointment voucher from the Test Centre.
● The test free are to be paid by online through credit or debit card.

After completing B.Arch, the candidate if they wish can go for post graduation i.e. Master of Architecture (M.Arch) which is of 2-3 semester duration. At the post graduate level, one can specialise in areas like construction management,  town planning, interior design,  naval architecture,  landscape designing,  building engineering and management,  etc. Doctoral programmes (Ph.D.) can be pursued after M.Arch or with B.Arch plus 5 years experience in professional practise or teaching or research.
